| 1 | A bill to be entitled | ||
| 2 | An act relating to postsecondary student fees; amending s. | ||
| 3 | 1009.24, F.S.; providing that each university board of | ||
| 4 | trustees is authorized to establish a nonrefundable | ||
| 5 | admissions deposit for degree programs; providing an | ||
| 6 | effective date. | ||

| 8 | Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: | ||
| 9 | |||
| 10 | Section 1. Paragraphs (b) through (r) of subsection (12) | ||
| 11 | of section 1009.24, Florida Statutes, are redesignated as | ||
| 12 | paragraphs (c) through (s), respectively, and a new paragraph | ||
| 13 | (b) is added to said subsection to read: | ||
| 14 | 1009.24 State university student fees.-- | ||
| 15 | (12) Each university board of trustees is authorized to | ||
| 16 | establish the following fees: | ||
| 17 | (b) A nonrefundable admissions deposit for undergraduate | ||
| 18 | and graduate degree programs in an amount not to exceed $200. | ||
| 19 | The admissions deposit shall be imposed at the time of a | ||
| 20 | student’s acceptance to the university and shall be applied to | ||
| 21 | the student’s tuition upon enrollment. In the event that a | ||
| 22 | student does not enroll in the university, the admissions | ||
| 23 | deposit shall be deposited in an auxiliary account of the | ||
| 24 | university and used to expand financial assistance, | ||
| 25 | scholarships, and student academic and career counseling | ||
| 26 | services at the university. | ||
| 27 | Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2003. | ||
