  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to Florida Gulf Coast

  3         University; amending s. 1002.32, F.S.;

  4         authorizing a developmental research school at

  5         the university; authorizing a bachelor of

  6         science in human performance degree program

  7         with a concentration in athletic training at

  8         the university; providing an effective date.

10  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

11  

12         Section 1.  Effective July 1, 2003, subsection (2) of

13  section 1002.32, Florida Statutes, is amended to read:

14         1002.32  Developmental research (laboratory) schools.--

15         (2)  ESTABLISHMENT.--There is established a category of

16  public schools to be known as developmental research

17  (laboratory) schools (lab schools). Each lab school shall

18  provide sequential instruction and shall be affiliated with

19  the college of education within the state university of

20  closest geographic proximity. A lab school to which a charter

21  has been issued under s. 1002.33(5)(b) must be affiliated with

22  the college of education within the state university that

23  issued the charter, but is not subject to the requirement that

24  the state university be of closest geographic proximity. For

25  the purpose of state funding, Florida Agricultural and

26  Mechanical University, Florida Atlantic University, Florida

27  Gulf Coast University, Florida State University, the

28  University of Florida, and other universities approved by the

29  State Board of Education and the Legislature are authorized to

30  sponsor one or more lab schools.

 1         Section 2.  A bachelor of science in human performance

 2  degree program with a concentration in athletic training is

 3  authorized at Florida Gulf Coast University.

 4         Section 3.  This act shall take effect upon becoming a

 5  law.

 9    Authorizes the creation of a bachelor of science in human
      performance with a concentration in athletic training
10    degree program, and the establishment of a developmental
      research school, at Florida Gulf Coast University.
