1 A bill to be entitled
2 An act relating to instructional materials for
3 K-12 public education; authorizing a pilot
4 program within specified counties to enable
5 selected school districts to realize cost
6 savings in the purchase of instructional
7 materials; requiring the Department of
8 Education to report to the Legislature;
9 providing an effective date.

11 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

13 Section 1. The Department of Education may conduct a
14 pilot program to enable selected school districts to realize
15 cost savings in the purchase of instructional materials. The
16 school districts of Hernando County, Pasco County, and
17 Hillsborough County shall participate in the pilot program.
18 Charter schools in each school district are eligible to
19 participate. For purposes of the pilot program, the
20 Department of Education may waive the requirements of section
21 1006.37, Florida Statutes, relating to the requisition of
22 instructional materials from publisher depositories. The
23 Department of Education shall submit to the President of the
24 Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives for
25 consideration during the 2004 Regular Session a report of the
26 cost savings to school districts based on results of the pilot
27 program.
28 Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2003.
