  1                    Senate Resolution No. ____

  2         A resolution recognizing January 2003 as Jewish

  3         History Month.

  4  

  5         WHEREAS, for more than 4,000 years, the Jewish people

  6  have made invaluable contributions to developing modern

  7  civilizations of the world, and

  8         WHEREAS, the history of Jewish people is rich in

  9  culture, complex in suffering and triumph, and characterized

10  by perseverance, self-sacrifice, and an indomitable spirit to

11  overcome oppressive legal, economic, social, and religious

12  injustices, and

13         WHEREAS, the Jewish people were among those who sailed

14  with Christopher Columbus when he discovered America and who

15  thereafter migrated to America and pioneered its development

16  into a free and independent nation under God, and

17         WHEREAS, the State of Florida is uniquely situated to

18  recognize and celebrate Jewish history because so many Jewish

19  men and women pioneered development of Florida; were and

20  remain distinguished leaders in our civic, commercial,

21  economic, and governmental affairs; and continue to provide

22  leadership into the new millennium, NOW, THEREFORE,

23  

24  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

25  

26         That the month of January 2003 is recognized as Jewish

27  History Month to acknowledge the cultural significance of

28  Jewish people and the invaluable contributions they have made

29  to our nation and to our state.
