1	A bill to be entitled
2	An act relating to special observances; creating s.
3	683.195, Florida Statutes; designating the month of
4	January of each year as “Florida Jewish History Month”;
5	providing for a proclamation by the Governor to that
6	effect; providing an effective date.

8	WHEREAS, among the myriad of ethnic groups that have passed
9	through Florida since 1513, Jews are notable for remaining in
10	the state and retaining and asserting their ethnic identity, and
11	WHEREAS, like other ethnic groups, Jews have actively
12	participated in shaping the destiny of Florida by bringing their
13	visions for freedom and democracy and their creativity, thus
14	leaving their footprints across the state, and
15	WHEREAS, Florida Jewish History Month is a time to focus
16	attention on the tremendous contributions Floridian Jews have
17	made in every area of the development of our state, NOW,
18	THEREFORE,

20	Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

22	Section 1. Section 683.195, Florida Statutes, is created
23	to read:
24	683.195 Florida Jewish History Month.--
25	(1) The month of January of each year is designated as
26	“Florida Jewish History Month.”
27	(2) The Governor may issue a proclamation annually
28	designating the month of January as “Florida Jewish History
29	Month” and calling upon the citizens of the state to observe the
30	occasion.
31	Section 2. This act shall take effect upon becoming a law.
