Between lines 95 and 96, insert: |

Section 2. (1) It is the intent of the Legislature that |
|

Florida’s highway patrol troopers be compensated at wage levels |
|
18
|
competitive with local law enforcement agencies.
|
|
19
|
(2) Beginning with the 2004-2005 fiscal year, the |
|
20
|
Legislature shall appropriate funds as it deems necessary from |
|
21
|
the General Revenue Fund to the Department of Highway Safety and |
|
22
|
Motor Vehicles to ensure that the average salary for highway |
|
23
|
patrol troopers is equal to or higher than the average salary |
|
24
|
for a law enforcement officer employed by the 10 largest county |
|
25
|
and municipal law enforcement agencies in this state.
