1 House Resolution
2          A resolution honoring Stanton College Preparatory School
3    and Paxon School for Advanced Studies.
4         
5          WHEREAS, at a time that the concerns of the entire nation
6    seem riveted on the academic achievements of its school
7    children, Stanton College Preparatory School and Paxon School
8    for Advanced Studies, both of Jacksonville, stand out as
9    superlative examples of the finest performing schools in
10    America, and
11          WHEREAS, chosen once again from among the top four percent
12    of all American high schools determined to have the strongest
13    Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate programs in
14    the country, Stanton College Prep and Paxon have been ranked
15    number 2 and number 3, respectively, on Newsweek magazine's list
16    of 100 Best High Schools in America for the year 2002, and
17          WHEREAS, inasmuch as studies have borne out that Advanced
18    Placement and International Baccalaureate testing challenges
19    students at all academic levels to better performance and
20    results in a higher percentage of college graduates, including
21    students with average high school grades and test scores,
22    Newsweek includes in its rankings only those schools that have a
23    prescribed ratio of students taking these tests, and
24          WHEREAS, the achievements of Stanton College Preparatory
25    School and Paxon School for Advanced Studies are striking
26    examples of the unlimited goals and heights that can be attained
27    by students and staff who, with the support of their families
28    and community, are committed to excellence, NOW, THEREFORE,

30          Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
31    Florida:

33          That the students and staff of Jacksonville's Stanton
34    College Preparatory School and Paxon School for Advanced Studies
35    are proudly recognized and most heartily congratulated on their
36    designation as number 2 and number 3, respectively, among
37    Newsweek magazine's 100 Best High Schools in America.
38          BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be
39    presented to John C. Fryer, Jr., Superintendent of Schools, as a
40    tangible token of the sentiments expressed herein.
