1	House Resolution
2	A resolution recognizing the week of November 16-22, 2003,
3	as "Florida Storytelling Week."

5	WHEREAS, the art of storytelling is a valuable method of
6	sharing Florida folklore and contributes to the preservation of
7	the history of our state, and
8	WHEREAS, the art of storytelling embraces the heritage and
9	oral tradition of diverse cultures within our state, enabling
10	all Floridians to celebrate the strength of community in the
11	richness of diversity, and
12	WHEREAS, the art of storytelling promotes literacy and
13	character development among the youth of our state while
14	encouraging mastery of language arts and knowledge of the
15	history and folklore of Florida as students learn, tell, and
16	listen to stories in school or community settings, and
17	WHEREAS, the art of storytelling fosters communication,
18	tolerance, and understanding among Florida citizens of every age
19	and background, and
20	WHEREAS, the Florida Storytelling Association, Inc.,
21	consisting of numerous storytellers in all regions of the state,
22	serves to preserve, perpetuate, and promote the art of
23	storytelling in Florida by educating storytellers and
24	encouraging the art of storytelling, NOW, THEREFORE,

26	Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
27	Florida:

29	That the Florida House of Representatives commends the
30	Florida Storytelling Association, Inc., and proclaims the week
31	of November 16-22, 2003, to be "Florida Storytelling Week."
