  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to an exemption from the sales

  3         and use tax; providing an exemption for certain

  4         energy-efficient appliances that meet the

  5         Energy Star requirements specified by the

  6         Federal Government; providing an effective

  7         date.

  9  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

10  

11         Section 1.  Exemptions; energy efficient

12  appliances.--The sale, lease, use, storage, consumption, or

13  distribution in this state of any energy-efficient appliance

14  shall be exempt from the tax on sales, use, and other

15  transactions imposed under chapter 212, Florida Statutes. For

16  purposes of this section, an energy-efficient appliance is a

17  dishwasher, clothes washer, ceiling fan, refrigerator, room

18  air-conditioning unit, central air-conditioning unit, lighting

19  fixture, compact fluorescent light bulb, or torchiere lamp

20  that meets or exceeds the applicable Energy Star efficiency

21  requirements developed by the United States Environmental

22  Protection Agency and the United States Department of Energy.

23         Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2004.
