  1                    Senate Resolution No. ____

  2         A resolution recognizing the 100th anniversary

  3         of Rotary International, the world's oldest and

  4         largest service club organization.

  5  

  6         WHEREAS, Rotary International is a worldwide

  7  organization of over 1.2 million business and professional men

  8  and women participating in more than 31,000 clubs in 529

  9  districts and 166 countries throughout the world, and

10         WHEREAS, the concept of Rotary grew from a meeting of

11  Chicago attorney Paul P. Harris and three friends on February

12  23, 1905, and

13         WHEREAS, Rotary members today are engaged in

14  humanitarian service projects in communities throughout the

15  world in the areas of education, literacy, health care,

16  housing, hunger, and poverty, the environment, transportation,

17  and world peace and understanding, and

18         WHEREAS, Rotary is united in its worldwide effort to

19  eradicate polio by the year 2005 through financial and

20  volunteer support of immunization efforts for hundreds of

21  millions of the world's children, and

22         WHEREAS, Rotary International affirms its commitment to

23  youth through sponsorship of Interact, Rotaract, Youth

24  Exchange, Ambassadorial Scholarships, Rotary Centers for

25  International Studies in peace and conflict resolution, as

26  well as Rotary Community Corps, Group Study Exchanges, 3-H

27  Grants, Matching Grants, World Community Service, and numerous

28  other programs, and

29         WHEREAS, Florida Rotary Districts 6890, 6930, 6940,

30  6950, 6960, 6970, 6980, and 6990 are actively engaged in

 1  Centennial projects reflecting Rotary's motto of "Service

 2  Above Self," and

 3         WHEREAS, Rotary International will celebrate its 100th

 4  anniversary on February 23, 2005, under the banner "A Century

 5  of Service, A New Century of Successes," as it continues to

 6  impact the lives of others worldwide, NOW, THEREFORE,

 7  

 8  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

 9  

10         That Rotary International is recognized on its 100th

11  anniversary for its continued commitment of service to others

12  by reaching out to those in need in Florida, the United

13  States, and throughout the world.

14         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution,

15  with the Seal of the Senate affixed, be presented to Rotary

16  International as a tangible token of the sentiments of the

17  Florida Senate.
