  1                    Senate Resolution No. ____

  2         A resolution recognizing Dr. Willis Holcombe on

  3         the occasion of his retirement.

  4  

  5         WHEREAS, Dr. Willis Holcombe has for many years worked

  6  tirelessly to ensure access to higher education by working

  7  with the Community College System in a number of capacities,

  8  and

  9         WHEREAS, as a senior member of the Council of

10  Presidents, Dr. Holcombe's advice and counsel were highly

11  sought by his colleagues, and

12         WHEREAS, he has provided significant service,

13  leadership, and support to community colleges, and his

14  leadership, insight, and knowledge have served the Community

15  College System well, and

16         WHEREAS, since 1974, Dr. Holcombe has been involved

17  with community colleges and helped to establish the process

18  that the Florida Association of Community Colleges uses in

19  coordinating its legislative plan with the Council of

20  Presidents and the state's community college system, and

21         WHEREAS, Dr. Holcombe never hesitated to emphasize the

22  importance of the Florida Association of Community Colleges in

23  keeping the community colleges united on issues that benefit

24  the entire system, and

25         WHEREAS, throughout the state, and in many circles, Dr.

26  Holcombe is known for his intelligence and integrity, and

27         WHEREAS, legislative policymakers have sought his

28  advice on community college issues and he has helped pave the

29  way for community colleges in the legislative process, and

30         WHEREAS, Dr. Holcombe is known for being a caring,

31  compassionate, and insightful individual, and

 1         WHEREAS, the Community College System has benefited

 2  from his talents and skills, which he shared openly and

 3  freely, and

 4         WHEREAS, he has earned the respect and admiration of

 5  his staff, colleagues, trustees, legislators, state

 6  policymakers, and the general Broward County constituency,

 7  NOW, THEREFORE,

 8  

 9  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

10  

11         That Dr. Willis Holcombe is commended on his retirement

12  from the Presidency of Broward Community College and his many

13  years of service to the Community College System in Florida.
