  1                    Senate Resolution No. ____

  2         A resolution recognizing and commending Jean

  3         Selvig.

  4  

  5         WHEREAS, Jean Selvig, a resident of Naples, Florida,

  6  personifies the virtues of physical fitness and a competitive

  7  spirit in persisting with her passion for playing tennis after

  8  having two spinal fusions, a steel rod inserted in her back,

  9  and a total replacement of the ball and socket in both hips,

10  and

11         WHEREAS, Jean is a true champion, teaming with doubles

12  partner Betty Cookson of Hillsborough, California, to win the

13  2003 Over-80 Doubles Title in the National Clay-Court Tennis

14  Championships in Gulfport, Mississippi, after trailing 3-5 in

15  the final set and coming back to win the next four games and

16  the Championship Title, and

17         WHEREAS, Jean's competitive achievements bring great

18  honor to the residents of Naples, Collier County, and the

19  State of Florida, NOW, THEREFORE,

20  

21  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

22  

23         That the Florida Senate recognizes and commends Jean

24  Selvig for her extraordinary competitive achievements in

25  winning the 2003 Over-80 Doubles Title in the National

26  Clay-Court Tennis Championships, thus demonstrating to the

27  people of Florida that neither age nor physical challenges can

28  impede a person's desire to achieve his or her goals.

29         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution,

30  with the Seal of the Senate affixed, be presented to Jean
