| 5 | WHEREAS, the aviation industry is one of the cornerstones | ||
| 6 | of Florida’s economy, with 19 commercial service airports and | ||
| 7 | 111 general aviation airports that are open to the public and | ||
| 8 | more than 550 private airports, and | ||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Florida’s airports provide nearly $90 billion | ||
| 10 | annually in economic activity, and its aviation industry | ||
| 11 | supports over one million jobs that generate more than $26 | ||
| 12 | billion in annual payroll, and | ||
| 13 | WHEREAS, Florida has the largest flight training industry | ||
| 14 | in the world, and | ||
| 15 | WHEREAS, Florida’s commercial service airports provide | ||
| 16 | nonstop scheduled service to 160 domestic and international | ||
| 17 | destinations, serve 110 million passengers annually, handle 6 | ||
| 18 | percent of the nation’s air cargo, and carry in excess of 50 | ||
| 19 | percent of the visitors that come to the state each year, and | ||
| 20 | WHEREAS, each year, Florida’s general aviation aircraft | ||
| 21 | bring 9 million visitors to the state, and its general aviation | ||
| 22 | airports house 14,000 aircraft, comprising 6 percent of the | ||
| 23 | nation’s general aviation fleet, and accommodate 7 million | ||
| 24 | takeoffs and landings yearly, ranking Florida second in the | ||
| 25 | nation in this area, NOW, THEREFORE, | ||

| 27 | Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of | ||
| 28 | Florida: | ||

| 30 | That the Members of the House of Representatives | ||
| 31 | enthusiastically acknowledge the outstanding contributions made | ||
| 32 | by the more than one million employees of the aviation industry | ||
| 33 | of the state and are pleased to recognize April 14, 2004, as | ||
| 34 | Aviation Day in Florida. | ||
