11  The Com. on Health Care (Jones) recommended the following amendment:
12  
13         Senate Amendment (with title amendment) 
14         On page 1, line 27, through
15         On page 2, line 24, delete those lines
16  
17  and insert:  department, in cooperation with the
18  state-approved medical schools located in this state which
19  form the area health education center network in this state,
20  shall maintain and evaluate organize an area health education
21  center network focused based on earlier medically indigent
22  demonstration projects and shall evaluate the impact of each
23  network on improving access to health services by persons who
24  are medically underserved.  The network shall serve as be a
25  catalyst for the primary care training of health professionals
26  by increasing through increased opportunities for training in
27  medically underserved areas, increasing access to primary care
28  services, providing health workforce recruitment, enhancing
29  the quality of health care, and addressing current and
30  emerging public health issues.
31         (1)  The department shall contract with the medical

 1  schools to assist in funding the an area health education
 2  center network, which links the provision of primary care
 3  services to medically underserved populations low-income
 4  persons with the education of:
 5         (a)  Medical students, interns, and residents.  The
 6  network shall:
 7         (a)  Be coordinated with and under contract with the
 8  state-approved medical schools, which shall be responsible for
 9  the clinical training and supervision.
10         1.(b)  Divide the state into service areas within the
11  network for with each state-approved medical school
12  coordinating the recruitment
