| 5 | WHEREAS, President Ronald Wilson Reagan, a man of humble |
| 6 | background, worked throughout his life serving freedom and |
| 7 | advancing the public good, having been employed as an |
| 8 | entertainer, union leader, and corporate spokesman before being |
| 9 | elected Governor of California and President of the United |
| 10 | States of America, and |
| 11 | WHEREAS, Ronald Reagan served with honor and distinction |
| 12 | for two terms as the 40th President of the United States of |
| 13 | America and was elected to his second term by three-fifths of |
| 14 | the electorate and by 49 of the 50 states, a record unsurpassed |
| 15 | in the history of American presidential elections, and |
| 16 | WHEREAS, in 1981, when Ronald Reagan was inaugurated |
| 17 | President, he inherited a disillusioned nation that was shackled |
| 18 | by rampant inflation and high unemployment, and |
| 19 | WHEREAS, during Mr. Reagan's presidency, he worked in a |
| 20 | bipartisan manner to enact his bold agenda of restoring |
| 21 | accountability and common sense to the Federal Government, which |
| 22 | led to an unprecedented economic expansion and opportunity for |
| 23 | millions of Americans, and |
| 24 | WHEREAS, President Reagan's commitment to an active social |
| 25 | policy agenda for the nation's children helped to lower crime |
| 26 | and reduce drug use in our neighborhoods, and |
| 27 | WHEREAS, President Reagan's commitment to our Armed Forces |
| 28 | contributed to the restoration of pride in America and its |
| 29 | values and those cherished by the free world and prepared |
| 30 | America's Armed Forces to meet the challenges of the 21st |
| 31 | century, and |
| 32 | WHEREAS, President Reagan's vision of "peace through |
| 33 | strength" led to the end of the Cold War and the ultimate demise |
| 34 | of the Soviet Union, guaranteeing basic human rights for |
| 35 | millions of people, and |
| 36 | WHEREAS, February 6, 2005, was the 94th anniversary of |
| 37 | Ronald Reagan's birth and the first anniversary of his passing, |
| 38 | NOW, THEREFORE, |

| 44 | deliberations to honor the memory and accomplishments of |
| 45 | President Ronald Wilson Reagan and to recognize February 6, |
| 46 | 2005, as "Ronald Reagan Day" in the State of Florida. |
