| 2 | A resolution recognizing March 14, 2005, as the first day |
| 3 | of the 10th anniversary celebration of Delta Days at the |
| 4 | Florida Capitol. |

| 6 | WHEREAS, since its inception in January 1913 by 22 |
| 7 | outstanding women at Howard University in Washington, D.C., |
| 8 | Delta Sigma Theta Sorority has been a vehicle for advocacy, |
| 9 | effecting social change and public policy through its Social |
| 10 | Action Commission, and |
| 11 | WHEREAS, nearly six weeks after its founding, the first |
| 12 | public act of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority was its participation |
| 13 | in the Women's Suffrage Movement demanding rights for women, and |
| 14 | WHEREAS, the Sorority is a sisterhood of college-educated |
| 15 | women committed to implementing the sorority's mission through |
| 16 | its Five Point Program Thrust: Economic Development, Educational |
| 17 | Development, Physical and Mental Health, Political Awareness, |
| 18 | and International Awareness and Involvement, and |
| 19 | WHEREAS, this organization recently celebrated 92 years of |
| 20 | exemplary service and support to local communities, leading |
| 21 | dialogue on public policy issues, supporting quality education, |
| 22 | and producing new projects to stimulate current and future |
| 23 | economic growth, and |
| 24 | WHEREAS, with over 200,000 college-educated women in more |
| 25 | than 950 chapters worldwide, 55 of which are located in Florida |
| 26 | and the Bahamas, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority members are clearly |
| 27 | visible as corporate and civic leaders, productive public |
| 28 | officials, acclaimed academicians, and activists, and |
| 29 | WHEREAS, Delta Sorors of the Florida Legislature include |
| 30 | Senator Larcenia Bullard and Representatives Dorothy Bendross- |
| 31 | Mindingall, Joyce Cusack, Audrey Gibson, and Arthenia Joyner, |
| 32 | NOW, THEREFORE, |

| 34 | Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of |
| 35 | Florida: |

| 37 | That the House of Representatives join the members of Delta |
| 38 | Sigma Theta Sorority in observing March 14, 2005, as the first |
| 39 | day of the 10th anniversary celebration of Delta Days at the |
| 40 | Florida Capitol. |
| 41 | BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be |
| 42 | presented to the Florida Leadership Team, Cynthia Boyd, Southern |
| 43 | Regional Director, and Yolanda Moore as a tangible token of the |
| 44 | sentiments expressed herein. |
