| 5 | WHEREAS, the film and entertainment industry in Florida |
| 6 | employs more than 42,000 of the state's residents, and |
| 7 | WHEREAS, from 1995 to 2001, employment in film and video |
| 8 | production in Florida grew by a compound annual rate of 11.7 |
| 9 | percent, wages grew by a compound annual rate of 14.1 percent, |
| 10 | and units of employment grew by 7.6 percent, and |
| 11 | WHEREAS, in 2002, sales generated from film and video |
| 12 | production alone were more than $1.16 billion, employing 10,083 |
| 13 | Floridians in over 1,554 films, and |
| 14 | WHEREAS, also in 2002, 17 national cable networks were |
| 15 | headquartered in Florida, including Telemundo and Univision, two |
| 16 | of the largest Spanish-language networks in the world, and, by |
| 17 | the end of 2003, Florida was ranked first in the nation for |
| 18 | Spanish language film and television production and third in the |
| 19 | nation for location production, the latter of which accounts for |
| 20 | an average of more than 100,000 room nights booked per year, and |
| 21 | WHEREAS, television and cable production is the state's |
| 22 | largest such industry sector at 47 percent, followed by motion |
| 23 | picture and video production at 24 percent, with the leading |
| 24 | source of revenue being in commercial production at 33 percent |
| 25 | of revenue produced in the sector, and |
| 26 | WHEREAS, there are 21 full-service local film commission |
| 27 | offices and 34 local film commission contacts and liaisons in |
| 28 | Florida, and more than 51 studios and sound stages work in |
| 29 | partnership with the Governor's Office of Film and Entertainment |
| 30 | to promote the state's industry infrastructure and locations at |
| 31 | the state, national, and international levels, NOW, THEREFORE, |
