| 6 | WHEREAS, Hadassah, the Women's Zionist Organization of |
| 7 | America, was founded by Henrietta Szold in 1912 to meet the |
| 8 | medical needs of Palestine's residents and is now one of the |
| 9 | largest of any Zionist organization, any Jewish organization, or |
| 10 | any women's organization in the United States, and |
| 11 | WHEREAS, since then, Hadassah has been a leading force in |
| 12 | providing for Israel's medical needs through its Mount Scopus |
| 13 | Medical Center, Ein Kerem Hospital, and various clinics across |
| 14 | that nation, extending state-of-the-art health care to 600,000 |
| 15 | patients a year, regardless of race, religion, or creed, and |
| 16 | often treating the most critically wounded in the region's |
| 17 | ongoing conflicts, and |
| 18 | WHEREAS, in this country, Hadassah women sold $200 million |
| 19 | in World War II bonds as their first national domestic effort |
| 20 | and have since become actively engaged in health education |
| 21 | programs on breast cancer and osteoporosis; voter registration |
| 22 | efforts; volunteer work in literacy programs and at domestic |
| 23 | violence shelters; Jewish education; grassroots advocacy on |
| 24 | Unites States-Israel relations, Jewish communal concerns, and |
| 25 | women's issues; and humanitarian relief to distressed |
| 26 | communities and countries, including the victims of the recent |
| 27 | tsunami disaster, and |
| 28 | WHEREAS, nominated to receive the Nobel Peace Prize, the |
| 29 | Hadassah Medical Organization is recognized for its excellence |
| 30 | in promoting peace in the Middle East through its equal |
| 31 | treatment for all people, including its care of more terror |
| 32 | victims than any other medical center in the region, and, with |
| 33 | its mixed staff of people of all faiths, for its serving as a |
| 34 | model of cooperation and coexistence in its ongoing initiatives |
| 35 | to create bridges for peace even throughout the intifada, NOW, |
| 36 | THEREFORE, |

| 38 | Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of |
| 39 | Florida: |

| 41 | That the members of Hadassah's Florida Central, Florida |
| 42 | Broward, Florida Atlantic, and Greater Miami Regions are |
| 43 | welcomed by their Legislators on this 30th day of March 2005 and |
| 44 | are commended for their vital role in efforts aimed at improving |
| 45 | the quality of life for all residents of Florida. |
