| 5 | WHEREAS, more than 190,000 people in the United States are |
| 6 | diagnosed with a primary or metastatic brain tumor each year, |
| 7 | and |
| 8 | WHEREAS, brain tumors are the leading cause of solid tumor |
| 9 | cancer death in people younger than 20 years of age and are the |
| 10 | third leading cause of cancer death in adults between the ages |
| 11 | of 20 and 39, and |
| 12 | WHEREAS, because brain tumors are located in the control |
| 13 | center for thought, emotion, and movement, their effects can be |
| 14 | devastating, and |
| 15 | WHEREAS, there are more than 120 different types of brain |
| 16 | tumors, making effective treatment very complicated, and, |
| 17 | whether malignant or benign, brain tumors can be life |
| 18 | threatening, and |
| 19 | WHEREAS, enhancing the quality of life of people with brain |
| 20 | tumors requires access to quality specialty care, clinical |
| 21 | trials, followup care, and rehabilitative services, and |
| 22 | improving the outlook for adults and children with brain tumors |
| 23 | requires research into causes of and better treatments for brain |
| 24 | tumors, NOW, THEREFORE, |

| 26 | Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of |
| 27 | Florida: |

| 29 | That May 1-7, 2005, is designated as "Brain Tumor Action |
| 30 | Week 2005" in Florida. |
