12 the following amendment:

15 Delete everything after the enacting clause

17 and insert:
18 Section 1. Subsection (9) is added to section 1009.26,
19 Florida Statutes, to read:
20 1009.26 Fee waivers.--
21 (9) A state university or community college shall
22 waive undergraduate tuition for each recipient of a Purple
23 Heart or another combat decoration superior in precedence who:
24 (a) Is enrolled as a full-time, part-time, or
25 summer-school student in an undergraduate program that
26 terminates in a degree or certificate;
27 (b) Is currently, and was at the time of the military
28 action that resulted in the awarding of the Purple Heart or
29 other combat decoration superior in precedence, a resident of
30 this state; and
31 (c) Submits to the state university or the community

1 college the DD-214 form issued at the time of separation from
2 service as documentation that the student has received a
3 Purple Heart or another combat decoration superior in
4 precedence.

6 Such a waiver for a Purple Heart recipient or recipient of
7 another combat decoration superior in precedence shall be
8 applicable for 110 percent of the number of required credit
9 hours of the degree or certificate program for which the
10 student is enrolled.
11 Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2006.

19 A bill to be entitled
20 An act relating to tuition waivers; amending s.
21 1009.26, F.S.; requiring state universities and
22 community colleges to waive tuition for a
23 recipient of a Purple Heart or other combat
24 decoration superior in precedence who fulfills
25 specified criteria; providing a percentage cap
26 on the number of required credit hours for
27 which a tuition waiver may be received;
28 providing an effective date.
