2An act relating to public school class size; amending s.
31003.03, F.S.; including co-teaching as an option to meet
4the constitutional class size maximums; authorizing co-
5teaching to be used in determining the teacher-to-student
6ratio per classroom; providing an effective date.

8Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

10     Section 1.  Paragraphs (e) through (l) of subsection (3) of
11section 1003.03, Florida Statutes, are redesignated as
12paragraphs (f) through (m), respectively, and a new paragraph
13(e) is added to that subsection to read:
14     1003.03  Maximum class size.--
15     (3)  IMPLEMENTATION OPTIONS.--District school boards must
16consider, but are not limited to, implementing the following
17items in order to meet the constitutional class size maximums
18described in subsection (1) and the two-student-per-year
19reduction required in subsection (2):
20     (e)  Use co-teaching as an instructional strategy in which
21two or more teachers in a classroom share responsibility for
22planning, delivering, and evaluating instruction for students in
23the class. Co-teaching may be used in determining the teacher-
24to-student ratio for purpose of compliance with the class size
25requirements of this section.
26     Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2006.
