| 5 | WHEREAS, each year more than 190,000 people in the United |
| 6 | States are diagnosed with a primary or metastatic brain tumor, |
| 7 | which may be malignant or may be benign, but either may be life |
| 8 | threatening, and |
| 9 | WHEREAS, brain tumors are the leading cause of solid tumor |
| 10 | cancer death in children under the age of 20 and are the third |
| 11 | leading cause of cancer death in young adults between the ages |
| 12 | of 20 and 39, and |
| 13 | WHEREAS, because brain tumors are located at the control |
| 14 | center for thought, emotion, and movement, their effects can be |
| 15 | devastating, and access to quality specialty care, |
| 16 | rehabilitative services, clinical trials, and followup care is |
| 17 | necessary to a meaningful quality of life for adults and |
| 18 | children with these tumors, and |
| 19 | WHEREAS, there are over 120 different types of brain |
| 20 | tumors, making effective treatment very complicated, and |
| 21 | continuing research is needed in the search for the causes of |
| 22 | this devastating malady and to determine better methods of |
| 23 | treatment for those who are suffering from its effects, NOW, |
| 24 | THEREFORE, |

| 26 | Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of |
| 27 | Florida: |

| 29 | That the House of Representatives designates May 1-7, 2006, |
| 30 | as "Brain Tumor Action Week 2006" in Florida. |
