| 6 | An act relating to law enforcement investigations; |
| 7 | creating s. 837.055, F.S.; prohibiting knowingly and |
| 8 | willfully giving false information to law enforcement |
| 9 | officers under certain circumstances; providing penalties; |
| 10 | providing an effective date. |

| 12 | Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: |
| 13 |
|
| 14 | Section 1. Section 837.055, Florida Statutes, is created |
| 15 | to read: |
| 16 | 837.055 False information to law enforcement during |
| 17 | investigation.--Whoever knowingly and willfully gives false |
| 18 | information to a law enforcement officer who is conducting a |
| 19 | missing person investigation or a felony criminal investigation |
| 20 | with the intent to mislead the officer or impede the |
| 21 | investigation commits a misdemeanor of the first degree, |
| 22 | punishable as provided in s. 775.082 or s. 775.083. |
| 23 | Section 2. This act shall take effect October 1, 2006. |
