  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to tuition waivers; providing a

  3         short title; amending s. 1009.26, F.S.;

  4         requiring state universities and community

  5         colleges to waive a percentage of the in-state

  6         tuition rate for veterans; providing a

  7         definition; providing an effective date.

  9  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

10  

11         Section 1.  This act may be cited as the "Veterans'

12  Tuition Assistance Act."

13         Section 2.  Subsection (10) is added to section

14  1009.26, Florida Statutes, to read:

15         1009.26  Fee waivers.--

16         (10)  A state university or community college shall

17  waive 50 percent of the in-state tuition rate for a veteran

18  who enrolls as a full-time, part-time, or summer-school

19  student in any vocational or career education course,

20  undergraduate course, or graduate course. For the purpose of

21  this subsection, "veteran" is defined as a person who

22  currently serves, or who has served and was discharged under

23  honorable conditions, in active military service during one of

24  the periods of wartime service as defined by the United States

25  Department of Veterans Affairs.

26         Section 3.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2007.
