  1                        Senate Resolution

  2         A resolution recognizing 50 years of

  3         International Programs at Florida State

  4         University.

  5  

  6         WHEREAS, Florida State University's International

  7  Programs will observe and celebrate its 50th anniversary

  8  during the 2006-2007 academic year, and

  9         WHEREAS, the commemoration of International Programs

10  includes honoring the institutional study centers in Panama

11  City, the Republic of Panama, established in 1957; Florence,

12  Italy, founded in 1966; London, England, established in 1971;

13  and Valencia, Spain, established as a year-round study center

14  in 1996, and

15         WHEREAS, there are also 15 international summer

16  programs offered by Florida State University around the world,

17  including program locations in Ireland, Australia, Japan, the

18  Czech Republic, Costa Rica, Holland, China, Brazil, Russia,

19  Switzerland, France, Ecuador, and Croatia, and

20         WHEREAS, these programs and study centers are highly

21  acclaimed and admired as providing exceptional academic

22  opportunities and pivotal life experiences in preparation for

23  careers and continued scholarly pursuits, and a lifelong

24  perspective of world cultures, regional and national

25  governance, geographical boundaries, natural resources,

26  economic conditions, historical frameworks, languages, and

27  populations, and

28         WHEREAS, there are more than 20,000 students, most of

29  whom are now alumni of Florida State University, who have

30  participated in the International Programs at study centers

31  and through the various summer programs, and

 1         WHEREAS, the Florida Senate resolutely and unanimously

 2  endorses the concept of international education programs and

 3  the essential institutional commitments, resources, and vision

 4  required to offer and support programs of the caliber,

 5  effectiveness, and attractiveness that have prevailed for half

 6  of a century through Florida State University, and

 7         Whereas, the Florida Senate acknowledges the

 8  significance of this anniversary while reiterating its

 9  unwavering belief that International Programs represent a

10  fundamental foundation in the mission of the university and

11  higher education in general, NOW, THEREFORE,

12  

13  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

14  

15         That the Florida Senate conveys its sincere

16  congratulations to the administrators, faculty, staff,

17  students, and countries who have been tireless advocates and

18  exceptional participants in the advancement and solidification

19  of a program of uncommon substance and remarkable results.

20         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Florida Senate

21  congratulates and commends the International Programs and

22  joins with thousands of others to express heartfelt

23  appreciation.
