  1                        Senate Resolution

  2         A resolution congratulating the Daughters of

  3         Italy Lodge #2825 for becoming the first

  4         all-women's lodge of the Order Sons of Italy in

  5         America and commending the organization's

  6         charitable work in this state.

  7  

  8         WHEREAS, the Daughters of Italy Lodge #2825 is the

  9  first all-women's lodge of the Order Sons of Italy in America

10  since the Order was established, and

11         WHEREAS, the Daughters of Italy Lodge #2825 was

12  established in May 2005 and presented its official charter

13  during a ceremony on June 26, 2005, which, coincidentally was

14  held on the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the

15  Order Sons of Italy in America, and

16         WHEREAS, the Daughters of Italy Lodge #2825 is a

17  diverse group of women in this state having a common goal of

18  promoting Italian culture and language and preserving the many

19  wonderful traditions of the various regions of Italy, and

20         WHEREAS, members of the Daughters of Italy Lodge #2825

21  are volunteers for the charities endorsed by the Order Sons of

22  Italy in America and the philanthropic endeavors that are dear

23  to their own individual lodge, including Cooley's Anemia

24  Foundation, the Alzheimer's Association, and breast cancer

25  research, and

26         WHEREAS, the Daughters of Italy Lodge #2825 offers

27  scholarships to qualified students of Italian descent who are

28  in high school in this state and accepted at a community

29  college, college, or university that is accredited by the

30  state, and

 1         WHEREAS, the Committee for Social Justice of the

 2  Daughters of Italy Lodge #2825, together with other lodges of

 3  the Order Sons of Italy in America, fights prejudice, bigotry,

 4  and defamation of Italians, Italian-Americans, and other

 5  groups of persons, NOW, THEREFORE,

 6  

 7  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

 8  

 9         That the Daughters of Italy Lodge #2825 is

10  congratulated for becoming the first all-women's lodge of the

11  Order Sons of Italy in America and commended for its

12  charitable work in this state.

13         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution,

14  with the Seal of the Senate affixed, be presented to the

15  Daughters of Italy Lodge #2825 as a tangible token of the

16  sentiments of the Florida Senate.
