| 8 | Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: |
| 9 |
|
| 10 | Section 1. Section 1003.425, Florida Statutes, is created |
| 11 | to read: |
| 12 | 1003.425 Required information for 9th grade |
| 13 | students.--Beginning in the 2007-2008 school year, each student |
| 14 | who is in the second semester of the 9th grade in a public |
| 15 | school must have been given instruction in: |
| 16 | (1) The value of a high school education, both financial |
| 17 | and cultural; |
| 18 | (2) The alternative assessments, such as the SAT and the |
| 19 | ACT, the scores of which could help the student obtain a high |
| 20 | school diploma; and |
| 21 | (3) The postsecondary options that are available, |
| 22 | including workforce training and enrolling in a community |
| 23 | college or a university, and the prerequisites to each, with or |
| 24 | without a diploma. The instruction must include a detailed |
| 25 | discussion of the relative advantages and disadvantages of each |
| 26 | alternative. |
| 27 | Section 2. This act shall take effect upon becoming a law. |
