A bill to be entitled
2An act relating to financial responsibility for motor
3vehicles; amending s. 324.021, F.S.; providing that a
4member of the United States Armed Forces called to or on
5active duty outside the state or the United States is
6exempt from providing required proof of financial
7responsibility as the owner, registrant, or operator of a
8motor vehicle under specified conditions; providing for
9eligibility; providing limitations; providing an effective
10date.

12Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:
13
14     Section 1.  Subsection (8) of section 324.021, Florida
15Statutes, is amended to read:
16     324.021  Definitions; minimum insurance required.--The
17following words and phrases when used in this chapter shall, for
18the purpose of this chapter, have the meanings respectively
19ascribed to them in this section, except in those instances
20where the context clearly indicates a different meaning:
21     (8)  MOTOR VEHICLE LIABILITY POLICY.--Any owner's or
22operator's policy of liability insurance furnished as proof of
23financial responsibility pursuant to s. 324.031, insuring such
24owner or operator against loss from liability for bodily injury,
25death, and property damage arising out of the ownership,
26maintenance, or use of a motor vehicle in not less than the
27limits described in subsection (7) and conforming to the
28requirements of s. 324.151, issued by any insurance company
29authorized to do business in this state. The owner, registrant,
30or operator of a motor vehicle is exempt from providing such
31proof of financial responsibility if he or she is a member of
32the United States Armed Forces and is called to or on active
33duty outside this state or the United States, or if the owner of
34the vehicle is the dependent spouse of such active duty member
35and is also residing with the active duty member at the place of
36posting of such member, and the vehicle is primarily maintained
37at such place of posting. The exemption provided by this
38subsection applies only as long as the member of the armed
39forces is on such active duty outside this state or the United
40States and the owner complies with the security requirements of
41the state of posting or any possession or territory of the
42United States.
43     Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2007.
