| 5 | WHEREAS, as of the 2006-2007 academic year, Florida State |
| 6 | University's International Programs has been in existence for 50 |
| 7 | years, and |
| 8 | WHEREAS, Florida State University's International Programs |
| 9 | includes the institutional study centers in Panama City, the |
| 10 | Republic of Panama, established in 1957; Florence, Italy, |
| 11 | founded in 1966; London, England, established in 1971; and |
| 12 | Valencia, Spain, established as a year-round study center in |
| 13 | 1996, and |
| 14 | WHEREAS, there are also 15 international summer programs |
| 15 | offered by Florida State University located in various countries |
| 16 | around the world, including Ireland, Australia, Japan, the Czech |
| 17 | Republic, Costa Rica, Holland, China, Brazil, Russia, |
| 18 | Switzerland, France, Ecuador, and Croatia, and |
| 19 | WHEREAS, these study centers and programs are highly |
| 20 | acclaimed, offering exceptional academic opportunities, career |
| 21 | preparation, and continued scholarly pursuits while providing |
| 22 | students with a lifelong, expanded perspective of world |
| 23 | cultures, regional and national governance, geographical |
| 24 | boundaries, natural resources, economic conditions, historical |
| 25 | frameworks, languages, and populations, and |
| 26 | WHEREAS, more than 20,000 students have participated in |
| 27 | International Programs at study centers and through various |
| 28 | summer programs offered by Florida State University, and |
| 29 | WHEREAS, the Florida State University Alumni Association |
| 30 | resolutely and unanimously endorses the concept of international |
| 31 | education programs and the essential and institutional |
| 32 | commitments, resources, and vision required to offer and support |
| 33 | programs of the caliber, effectiveness, and attractiveness that |
| 34 | have prevailed for a half century through Florida State |
| 35 | University's International Programs, NOW, THEREFORE, |

| 37 | Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of |
| 38 | Florida: |

| 40 | That Florida State University's International Programs and |
| 41 | the administration, faculty, staff, students, and countries who |
| 42 | are tireless advocates of and exceptional participants in its |
| 43 | advancement are hereby congratulated and recognized for 50 years |
| 44 | of remarkable contributions to the furtherance of higher |
| 45 | education. |
