1	House Resolution
2	A resolution designating April 10, 2007, as "University of
3	South Florida Day" in Tallahassee.

5	WHEREAS, the University of South Florida has more than
6	200,000 alumni living in all 50 states and 80,000 graduates
7	living in the Tampa Bay area and serves its community in the
8	areas of health, business, and the arts, particularly through
9	social programs that seek to make the Tampa Bay area a safe and
10	viable place to live, and
11	WHEREAS, the University of South Florida has a $3.2 billion
12	annual economic impact on the Tampa Bay area and has been
13	classified in the top tier of research universities by the
14	Carnegie Foundation, and
15	WHEREAS, the University of South Florida invests its
16	resources in ways that mutually benefit the university and the
17	community through collaborative interactions and related
18	scholarships, which has produced more than 600,000 volunteer
19	hours from students, faculty, and staff and more than $22
20	million in pro bono health care and distinguished the university
21	as the only Florida institution to have received the Carnegie
22	Foundation classification for Community Engagement in Outreach
23	and Partnerships, and
24	WHEREAS, the University of South Florida submitted a
25	winning proposal to the Florida Technology, Research, and
26	Scholarship Board, which awarded the university $8 million to
27	create the Florida Center of Excellence for Biomolecular
28	Identification and Targeted Therapeutics, a true
29	community/business partnership that will change how illnesses
30	and diseases are detected and treated, and
31	WHEREAS, the USF Bulls are members of the Big East Athletic
32	Conference, are the only Division 1-A team serving the sports-
33	loving Tampa Bay area, and are especially proud of sponsoring
34	diverse and nationally competitive programs that focus on
35	academics and the health, fitness, and emotional development of
36	their scholar athletes while providing affordable family
37	entertainment for the community at large and enhancing the Bay
38	Area's status as a model center of sports as economic
39	development, NOW, THEREFORE,

41	Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
42	Florida:

44	That the University of South Florida is recognized for its
45	excellence as an institution of higher learning and for its
46	exemplary service to its students and the wider community and
47	designates April 10, 2007, as "University of South Florida Day"
48	in Tallahassee.
49	BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be
50	presented to Dr. Judy Genshaft, President of the University of
51	South Florida, as a tangible token of the sentiments expressed
52	herein.
