| 6 | quality of life of people in Florida and the United |
| 7 | States, in Israel, in the Middle East, and elsewhere in |
| 8 | the world. |

| 10 | WHEREAS, Hadassah, the Women's Zionist Organization of |
| 11 | America, the largest Zionist, largest Jewish, and largest |
| 12 | women's membership organization in the country, was founded in |
| 13 | 1912 by Henrietta Szold, and focuses primarily on the provision |
| 14 | of health care in the United States and Israel, women's issues, |
| 15 | education, and youth programs, and |
| 16 | WHEREAS, since its founding, Hadassah has been a leading |
| 17 | force in supporting Israel's medical needs through Mt. Scopus |
| 18 | Hospital, Ein Karem Hospital, and various clinics across the |
| 19 | country, and |
| 20 | WHEREAS, Hadassah hospitals, in addition to serving as a |
| 21 | model of peaceful coexistence in the Middle East, provide state- |
| 22 | of-the-art health care to 600,000 patients a year, regardless of |
| 23 | race, religion, or creed, and often treat the most critically |
| 24 | wounded in the region's ongoing conflicts, and |
| 25 | WHEREAS, in the United States, Hadassah women sold $200 |
| 26 | million in United States World War II bonds as their first |
| 27 | national domestic effort, and |
| 28 | WHEREAS, since then, Hadassah women have been actively |
| 29 | engaged in domestic health education programs on breast cancer |
| 30 | and osteoporosis; voter registration efforts; Jewish education; |
| 31 | grassroots advocacy on United States-Israel relations, Jewish |
| 32 | communal concerns, and women's issues; humanitarian relief to |
| 33 | distressed communities and countries; and volunteer work in |
| 34 | literacy programs and at domestic violence shelters, and |
| 35 | WHEREAS, nominated to receive the Nobel Peace Prize, the |
| 36 | Hadassah Medical Organization is recognized for its excellence |
| 37 | in promoting peace in the Middle East through its equal |
| 38 | treatment for all people, including its care of more terror |
| 39 | victims than any other medical center in the region, and, with |
| 40 | its mixed staff of people of all faiths, for its serving as a |
| 41 | model of cooperation and coexistence in its ongoing initiatives |
| 42 | to create bridges for peace even throughout the intifada, and |
| 43 | WHEREAS, on this day, Thursday, April 19, 2007, Hadassah |
| 44 | women have gathered at the Capitol in Tallahassee to help |
| 45 | educate Florida Legislators on the value of supporting stem cell |
| 46 | research for all Floridians, NOW, THEREFORE, |

| 48 | Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of |
| 49 | Florida: |

| 51 | That the women of Hadassah from the Florida Central, |
| 52 | Florida Atlantic, Florida Broward, and Greater Miami Regions are |
| 53 | welcomed by their Representatives on this 19th day of April 2007 |
| 54 | and are commended for their vital role in efforts aimed at |
| 55 | improving the quality of life of people in Florida and the |
| 56 | United States, in Israel, in the Middle East, and elsewhere in |
| 57 | the world. |
