3     Amendment (with title amendment)
4     Remove everything after the enacting clause and insert:
5     Section 1.  Paragraph (b) of subsection (1) of section
61001.43, Florida Statutes, is amended to read:
7     1001.43  Supplemental powers and duties of district school
8board.--The district school board may exercise the following
9supplemental powers and duties as authorized by this code or
10State Board of Education rule.
11     (1)  STUDENT MANAGEMENT.--The district school board may
12adopt programs and policies to ensure the safety and welfare of
13individuals, the student body, and school personnel, which
14programs and policies may:
15     (b)  Require uniforms to be worn by the student body, or
16impose other dress-related requirements, if the district school
17board finds that those requirements are necessary for the safety
18or welfare of the student body or school personnel. However,
19students may wear sunglasses, hats, or other sun-protective wear
20while outdoors during school hours, such as when students are at
21recess. Criteria and instructions for school uniform dress codes
22shall be set by a committee established by the district school
23board.
24     Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2008.
