Senate Resolution

2

A resolution recognizing Dr. William Lascheid, M.D., and

3

Nancy Lascheid, R.N., for their outstanding public service

4

in making quality medical care available to uninsured,

5

low-income adults in Collier County by establishing an

6

exemplary volunteer-based neighborhood health clinic,

7

coordinating its services, and serving as volunteers.

8

9

     WHEREAS, the delivery of health care services to individuals

10

who lack the means to pay for the services is a pressing problem

11

in this and every state, and

12

     WHEREAS, many working adults, particularly those earning

13

minimum wages, are uninsured because they cannot afford health

14

insurance, and

15

     WHEREAS, the health care needs of the underserved population

16

cannot be met without the help of compassionate volunteers, and

17

     WHEREAS, Dr. William Lascheid, M.D., and Nancy Lascheid,

18

R.N., are among the most generous of those volunteers in that

19

they have, since 1992, faithfully supported the provision of

20

health care services for individuals living in Collier County who

21

have limited financial resources, and

22

     WHEREAS, William and Nancy Lascheid cofounded the

23

Neighborhood Health Clinic in 1999 based on an innovative concept

24

combining philanthropy and volunteerism to provide quality

25

medical care and prescription medicines to adults in their

26

community who are working, but uninsured, at a cost to patients

27

for each visit of 1 hour of their wages, and

28

     WHEREAS, William and Nancy Lascheid have labored selflessly

29

to enlist and coordinate the volunteer services of physicians,

30

nurses, other health care professionals, and community members to

31

offer health services at the Neighborhood Health Clinic, and

32

     WHEREAS, in 2002, the Neighborhood Health Clinic moved from

33

its first site in donated storefront space to a more spacious and

34

modern facility having a staff of volunteer physicians and nurses

35

and a total of more than 500 volunteers, funded entirely through

36

private philanthropy, and

37

     WHEREAS, volunteers at the Neighborhood Health Clinic have

38

donated 87,458 hours of services worth nearly $7.5 million, and

39

medical providers outside the clinic have donated services to the

40

clinic's patients which are worth nearly $4.4 million, and

41

     WHEREAS, as of June 2007, the doctors volunteering for the

42

clinic had provided medical consultations to patients in 28,702

43

visits and the clinic had filled many thousands of prescriptions

44

that together have a retail value of over $4.2 million, and

45

     WHEREAS, William and Nancy Lascheid have received numerous

46

awards and accolades recognizing the establishment, success, and

47

value of the Neighborhood Health Clinic and their exemplary

48

volunteer services, including, the National Jefferson Award for

49

Public Service, the Gulfshore Life Man of the Year in Medicine,

50

the Florida Medical Association Partnership in Medicine Award,

51

the Community Foundation Robert C. Cosgrove Award, the Naples

52

Daily News 2001 Outstanding Citizen Award, and the State of

53

Florida Points of Light Award, NOW, THEREFORE,

54

Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

56

     That the Florida Senate recognizes Dr. William Lascheid,

58

M.D., and Nancy Lascheid, R.N., for their years of exemplary and

59

selfless service to the people of Collier County and this state.

60

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution, with

61

the Seal of the Senate affixed, be presented to Dr. and Mrs.

62

William Lascheid as a tangible token of the sentiments of the

63

Florida Senate.
