An act relating to sexual predators; amending s. 775.21,

F.S.; requiring the Department of Law Enforcement to set

4

and charge a fee to sexual predators who are financially

5

able to pay for all or part of the costs of supervision;

6

authorizing a sheriff to charge a fee to a sexual predator

7

to help defray the expense of registering the sexual

8

predator at the sheriff's office; requiring the department

9

to adopt rules; providing an effective date.

Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

     Section 1.  Subsections (11) and (12) are added to section

14

775.21, Florida Statutes, to read:

     775.21  The Florida Sexual Predators Act.--

16

     (11) EXPENSES.--

17

     (a) The department shall set a fee to cover the

18

department's actual costs of supervision, and those sexual

19

predators who are financially able shall pay all or part of the

20

costs of supervision.

     (b) The sheriff may charge a fee to a sexual predator to

22

help defray the actual expense incurred in registering the sexual

23

predator at the sheriff's office.

24

     (12) RULES.--The department shall adopt rules pursuant to

25

ss. 120.536(1) and 120.54 to administer this section.

     Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2008.
