A bill to be entitled

An act relating to the Department of Transportation;

requiring the department to conduct a study of

4

transportation alternatives for the Interstate 95

5

corridor; providing an effective date.

Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

8

     Section 1. The Department of Transportation, in

10

consultation with the Department of Law Enforcement, the Division

11

of Emergency Management of the Department of Community Affairs,

12

and the Office of Tourism, Trade, and Economic Development, shall

13

complete a study of transportation alternatives for the travel

14

corridor parallel to Interstate 95 which takes into account the

15

transportation, emergency management, homeland security, and

16

economic development needs of the state. The report must include

17

identification of cost-effective measures that may be implemented

18

to alleviate congestion on Interstate 95, facilitate emergency

19

and security responses, and foster economic development. The

20

Department of Transportation shall send the report to the

21

Governor, the President of the Senate, the Speaker of the House

22

of Representatives, and each affected metropolitan planning

23

organization by June 30, 2009.

     Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2008.
