| 7 | Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: |
| 8 |

| 9 | Section 1. Section 458.3096, Florida Statutes, is created |
| 10 | to read: |
| 11 | 458.3096 Prohibition of medical residency, licensure, or |
| 12 | practice in the state; grounds for prohibition; exception.-- |
| 13 | (1) Notwithstanding any other provision of law to the |
| 14 | contrary, any United States citizen or United States resident |
| 15 | who travels to Cuba to receive medical training or a medical |
| 16 | degree is prohibited from undertaking his or her medical |
| 17 | residency in the state, from being licensed to practice medicine |
| 18 | in the state, and from practicing medicine in any capacity in |
| 19 | the state. |
| 20 | (2) This prohibition does not apply to any native or |
| 21 | citizen of Cuba who received his or her medical training or |
| 22 | medical degree in Cuba prior to immigrating to the United |
| 23 | States. |
| 24 | Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2008. |
