| 5 | WHEREAS, under Head Coach Mary "Roonie" Scovel and |
| 6 | Assistant Coach Grover Hicks, Jr., the Gulf Coast Community |
| 7 | College Lady Commodores Women's Basketball Team has compiled a |
| 8 | season record of 36 wins and 1 loss, and |
| 9 | WHEREAS, in addition, Coach Scovel has an astonishing |
| 10 | career record of 363 wins and 40 losses, and |
| 11 | WHEREAS, the Gulf Coast Community College Lady Commodores |
| 12 | have accumulated numerous team and individual honors, among |
| 13 | which are winning the 2008 National Junior College Athletic |
| 14 | Association (NJCAA) Women's Division I Tournament Championship, |
| 15 | their second national championship, and the 2008 Florida |
| 16 | Community College Athletic Association (FCCAA) Women's State |
| 17 | Tournament Championship, and |
| 18 | WHEREAS, in both associations, Coach Scovel received NCJAA |
| 19 | Coach of the Tournament and FCCAA Coach of the Tournament |
| 20 | honors, and |
| 21 | WHEREAS, the Gulf Coast Community College Lady Commodores |
| 22 | were also 2008 Region VIII Panhandle Conference Champions, their |
| 23 | eleventh straight win as conference champions, with Coach Scovel |
| 24 | also receiving Panhandle Conference Coach of the Year honors, |
| 25 | and |
| 26 | WHEREAS, individual team honors bestowed by the National |
| 27 | Junior College Athletic Association include the NJCAA Tournament |
| 28 | Most Valuable Player award to Dee Liles and NJCAA All-Tournament |
| 29 | Team designations to Jackie Sanders and Janae' Stokes, and |
| 30 | WHEREAS, individual team honors bestowed by the Florida |
| 31 | Community College Athletic Association include the FCCAA Region |
| 32 | VIII Tournament Most Valuable Player award to Jackie Sanders and |
| 33 | FCCAA Region VIII All-Tournament Team designations to Dee Liles |
| 34 | and Janae' Stokes, and |
| 35 | WHEREAS, Panhandle Conference Awards included First-Team |
| 36 | All Conference designations to Alexis Givands, Chimere Jordan, |
| 37 | Dee Liles, Janea' Stokes, and |
| 38 | WHEREAS, Dee Liles also received the Women's Basketball |
| 39 | Coaches Association/State Farm National Junior College Player of |
| 40 | the Year award, and |
| 41 | WHEREAS, team members Valarie Blackwood, Nadirah Gardner, |
| 42 | Alexis Givands, Nykita Gordon, Sabrina Johnson, Kimberly Jones, |
| 43 | Chimere Jordan, Ashlee Kelly, DeMauria "Dee" Liles, Brittney |

| 45 | Stokes, are to be commended for their numerous accomplishments, |

| 48 | Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of |

| 51 | That the players, coaches, and staff of the Gulf Coast |
| 52 | Community College Women's Basketball Team are hereby honored for |
| 53 | their numerous accomplishments. |
| 54 | BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be |
| 55 | presented to Valarie Blackwood, Nadirah Gardner, Alexis Givands, |
| 56 | Nykita Gordon, Sabrina Johnson, Kimberly Jones, Chimere Jordan, |
