    1                        A bill to be entitled                      
    2         An act relating to legislative compensation; amending
    3         s. 11.13, F.S.; reducing the annual salaries of
    4         members of the Legislature; providing an effective
    5         date.

    7  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:
    8         
    9         Section 1. Paragraph (b) of subsection (1) of section
   10  11.13, Florida Statutes, is amended to read:
   11         11.13 Compensation of members.—
   12         (1)
   13         (b)1. Effective July 1, 1986, and each July 1 thereafter,
   14  the annual salaries of members of the Senate and House of
   15  Representatives shall be adjusted by the average percentage
   16  increase in the salaries of state career service employees for
   17  the fiscal year just concluded. The Appropriations Committee of
   18  each house shall certify to the Office of Legislative Services
   19  the average percentage increase in the salaries of state career
   20  service employees before July 1 of each year. The Office of
   21  Legislative Services shall, as of July 1 of each year, determine
   22  the adjusted annual salaries in accordance with this
   23  subparagraph as provided herein.
   24         2. Effective July 1, 2009, the Office of Legislative
   25  Services, upon adjusting the annual salaries for the 2009-2010
   26  fiscal year, shall reduce the adjusted annual salaries of
   27  members of the Senate and House of Representatives by 5 percent.
   28  Effective July 1, 2010, the Office of Legislative Services shall
   29  adjust the annual salaries in effect on June 30, 2010, and each
   30  June 30 thereafter, in accordance with subparagraph 1.
   31         Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2009.
