    1                        A bill to be entitled                      
    2         An act relating to land acquisition; amending s.
    3         259.041, F.S.; deleting an obsolete date with respect
    4         to implementation of initiatives requiring that the
    5         Department of Environmental Protection and water
    6         management districts use alternatives to fee simple
    7         acquisition; providing an effective date.

    9  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:
   10         
   11         Section 1. Paragraph (d) of subsection (11) of section
   12  259.041, Florida Statutes, is amended to read:
   13         259.041 Acquisition of state-owned lands for preservation,
   14  conservation, and recreation purposes.—
   15         (11)
   16         (d) Beginning in fiscal year 1999-2000, The department and
   17  each water management district shall implement initiatives to
   18  use alternatives to fee simple acquisition and to educate
   19  private landowners about such alternatives. The department and
   20  the water management districts may enter into joint acquisition
   21  agreements to jointly fund the purchase of lands using
   22  alternatives to fee simple techniques.
   23         Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2009.
