1 Senate Resolution
2 A resolution recognizing August 9 through 15, 2009, as
3 “Florida Health Center Week.”

5 WHEREAS, federally qualified health centers are nonprofit,
6 community-owned and operated health providers serving uninsured
7 and medically underserved people in the State of Florida, and
8 WHEREAS, federally qualified health centers expand access
9 to affordable, high quality, and cost-effective health care to
10 all people and contain health care costs by fostering prevention
11 and integrating the delivery of primary care with aggressive
12 outreach, patient education, translation, and other enabling
13 services, and
14 WHEREAS, federally qualified health centers have made great
15 strides in improving Florida’s health care system by maintaining
16 high standards of accountability, demonstrating cost
17 effectiveness and efficiency in the delivery of care, empowering
18 communities to address unmet health needs, reducing health
19 disparities among different segments of the population, and
20 reducing preventable deaths, costly disabilities, and
21 communicable diseases, and
22 WHEREAS, federally qualified health centers are staffed by
23 doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and other allied health
24 professionals who have chosen to serve in communities in need,
25 helping to expand the reach of primary care and preventive
26 health services, and
27 WHEREAS, there is a continuing need to support federally
28 qualified health centers throughout Florida as part of the
29 state’s enduring commitment to the provision of quality primary
30 health care, and
31 WHEREAS, federally qualified health centers promote access
32 to quality health care services for all Floridians, regardless
33 of socio-economic status or race, to achieve the highest
34 standard of health care for all, NOW, THEREFORE,

36 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

38 That the Florida Senate recognizes August 9 through 15,
39 2009, as “Florida Health Center Week” in the State of Florida
40 and expresses its appreciation for the valued contributions of
41 federally qualified health centers in expanding access to health
42 care and improving the health and future well-being of the
43 people of this state.
