| 1 | A bill to be entitled |
| 2 | An act relating to resident status for tuition purposes; |
| 3 | amending s. 1009.21, F.S.; providing that veterans of the |
| 4 | Armed Services of the United States and the United States |
| 5 | Reserve Forces and their spouses and dependents who attend |
| 6 | a community college or a state university are residents |
| 7 | for tuition purposes; providing an effective date. |

| 9 | Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: |
| 10 |

| 11 | Section 1. Present paragraphs (c) through (k) of |
| 12 | subsection (10) of section 1009.21, Florida Statutes, are |
| 13 | redesignated as paragraphs (d) through (l), respectively, and a |
| 14 | new paragraph (c) is added to that subsection, to read: |
| 15 | 1009.21 Determination of resident status for tuition |
| 16 | purposes.--Students shall be classified as residents or |
| 17 | nonresidents for the purpose of assessing tuition in community |
| 18 | colleges and state universities. |
| 19 | (10) The following persons shall be classified as |
| 20 | residents for tuition purposes: |
| 21 | (c) Veterans of the Armed Services of the United States |
| 22 | and the United States Reserve Forces and their spouses and |
| 23 | dependents who attend a community college or a state university. |
| 24 | Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2009. |
