A bill to be entitled
2An act relating to electrical and alarm system
3contracting; amending s. 489.537, F.S.; requiring that an
4electrical journeyman be present on any industrial or
5commercial new construction site when certain electrical
6work is being performed; providing an effective date.

8Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

10     Section 1.  Paragraph (f) of subsection (3) of section
11489.537, Florida Statutes, is amended, and subsection (10) is
12added to that section, to read:
13     489.537  Application of this part.--
14     (3)  Nothing in this act limits the power of a municipality
15or county:
16     (f)  To require that one electrical journeyman, who is a
17graduate of the Institute of Applied Technology in Construction
18Excellence or licensed pursuant to s. 489.5335, be present on an
19industrial or commercial new construction site with a facility
20of 50,000 gross square feet or more when electrical work in
21excess of 77 volts is being performed in order to supervise or
22perform such work, except as provided in s. 489.503.
23     (10)  At least one electrical journeyman who is licensed
24pursuant to s. 489.5335 must be present on an industrial or
25commercial new construction site when electrical work in excess
26of 98 volts is being performed in order to supervise or perform
27such work, except as provided in s. 489.503.
28     Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2009.
