| 7 | to be one or more end-of-course examinations; specifying |
| 8 | requirements for an end-of-course examination; providing |
| 9 | an effective date. |

| 11 | Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: |
| 12 |

| 13 | Section 1. Notwithstanding s. 1008.22, Florida Statutes, |
| 14 | or any other provision of the law to the contrary, the Florida |
| 15 | Comprehensive Assessment Test in science administered to |
| 16 | students in grade 11 shall be discontinued at the end of the |
| 17 | 2008-2009 school year. Beginning with the 2009-2010 school year, |
| 18 | the science assessment administered at the high school level |
| 19 | shall be one or more end-of-course examinations. The |
| 20 | Commissioner of Education shall select one or more nationally |
| 21 | developed comprehensive assessments for use as end-of-course |
| 22 | examinations. An end-of-course examination must be rigorous and |
| 23 | standardized, approved by the State Board of Education, and |
| 24 | administered statewide. The content knowledge and skills |
| 25 | assessed by an end-of-course examination must be aligned to the |
| 26 | core curricular content established in the Sunshine State |
| 27 | Standards. |
| 28 | Section 2. This act shall take effect upon becoming a law. |
