| 2 | A resolution congratulating Erica White for being the |
| 3 | first woman from Jacksonville to be drafted by the Women's |
| 4 | National Basketball Association. |

| 6 | WHEREAS, Jean Ribault High School in Jacksonville has long |
| 7 | been recognized for its winning tradition in both girls' and |
| 8 | boys' basketball, and |
| 9 | WHEREAS, the Jean Ribault High School Girls' Basketball |
| 10 | Team continued this tradition of athletic excellence with the |
| 11 | help of the then McDonald's All-American, Erica White, who led |
| 12 | the high school to three consecutive state championships from |
| 13 | 2001 to 2003, and |
| 14 | WHEREAS, following her graduation from Jean Ribault High |
| 15 | School, Erica White attended Louisiana State University, where |
| 16 | she played for the Lady Tigers' basketball team and helped the |
| 17 | Tigers reach the Final Four during each of her four college |
| 18 | seasons, and |
| 19 | WHEREAS, the Jacksonville native made history in 2008 as |
| 20 | the first woman selected from that proud city into the Women's |
| 21 | National Basketball Association, taken by the Houston Comets as |
| 22 | the 17th overall pick of only 42 selections among 14 WNBA teams, |
| 23 | and |
| 24 | WHEREAS, having spent the 2008-2009 offseason overseas |
| 25 | playing professionally in Netanya, Israel, Erica White will |
| 26 | return to the United States to continue her successful career |
| 27 | playing for the WNBA's Indiana Fever, NOW, THEREFORE, |

| 29 | Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of |
| 30 | Florida: |

| 32 | That the Florida House of Representatives commends Erica |
| 33 | White for her many athletic accomplishments and congratulates |
| 34 | her on being the first woman from Jacksonville to be drafted by |
| 35 | the Women's National Basketball Association. |
| 36 | BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be |
| 37 | presented to Erica White and to the Jean Ribault High School |
| 38 | Athletic Department as a tangible token of the sentiments |
| 39 | expressed herein. |
