    1                        A bill to be entitled                      
    2         An act relating to postsecondary education fee
    3         waivers; amending s. 1009.26, F.S.; authorizing state
    4         universities and community colleges to waive tuition
    5         and fees for certain public school teachers for
    6         certain courses; providing an effective date.

    8  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

   10         Section 1. Subsection (10) is added to section 1009.26,
   11  Florida Statutes, to read:
   12         1009.26 Fee waivers.—
   13         (10) A state university or community college may waive
   14  tuition and fees for a classroom teacher as defined in s.
   15  1012.01(2)(a) who is employed full-time by a school district and
   16  meets any academic requirements established by the community
   17  college or state university to enroll for up to 6 credit hours
   18  per term on a space-available basis in undergraduate courses
   19  approved by the State Board of Education. Such courses shall be
   20  limited to undergraduate courses related to special education,
   21  mathematics, or science. The waiver may not be used for courses
   22  scheduled during the school day.
   23         Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2010.
