    1                          Senate Resolution                        
    2         A resolution recognizing May 7, 2010, as “National
    3         Public Gardens Day” in Florida.
    4  
    5         WHEREAS, Florida is home to 35 public gardens that
    6  contribute to the scientific knowledge, culture, economy, and
    7  quality of life in cities and communities throughout the state,
    8  and
    9         WHEREAS, Florida’s public gardens embrace diverse missions
   10  that range from conservation, environmental stewardship,
   11  display, research, botanical collections, cultural arts,
   12  education, agriculture, history, wildlife, architectural
   13  preservation, health, relaxation, and spiritual fulfillment for
   14  all who visit them, and
   15         WHEREAS, Florida has long been associated with a diverse
   16  and beautiful native flora and bountiful agriculture and
   17  horticulture that is worthy of celebration in our public gardens
   18  throughout the state, and
   19         WHEREAS, the American Public Gardens Association promotes
   20  the professional standards of public gardens throughout North
   21  America and has promoted the annual observance of “National
   22  Public Gardens Day” on the Friday before Mother’s Day as a
   23  national day of celebration of America’s public gardens, NOW,
   24  THEREFORE,

   26  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:
   27  
   28         That May 7, 2010, is recognized as “National Public Gardens
   29  Day” in Florida.
