| 4 | plates free of charge to veterans of the Armed Forces of |
| 5 | the United States; providing for the military branch in |
| 6 | which the veteran served to be displayed on the plate; |
| 7 | providing an effective date. |

| 9 | Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: |
| 10 |
|
| 11 | Section 1. Section 320.0844, Florida Statutes, is created |
| 12 | to read: |
| 13 | 320.0844 Free motor vehicle license plates for veterans.- |
| 14 | The owner or lessee of an automobile or truck for private use, a |
| 15 | truck weighing not more than 7,999 pounds, or a recreational |
| 16 | vehicle as specified in s. 320.08(9)(c) or (d), which |
| 17 | automobile, truck, or recreational vehicle is not used for hire |
| 18 | or commercial use, who is a resident of the state and a veteran |
| 19 | of the Armed Forces of the United States shall, upon application |
| 20 | to the department, accompanied by proof of veteran status, be |
| 21 | issued free of charge one standard license plate as provided by |
| 22 | s. 320.06 upon which, in lieu of the registration license number |
| 23 | prescribed by s. 320.06, shall be stamped the name of the branch |
| 24 | of the military in which the person served followed by the |
| 25 | registration license number of the plate. |
| 26 | Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2010. |
