    1                        A bill to be entitled                      
    2         An act relating to private correctional facilities;
    3         amending s. 957.04, F.S.; requiring that a contractor
    4         provide certain minimum services at designated
    5         visiting areas in a private correctional facility;
    6         providing for application of the act; providing an
    7         effective date.

    9  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:
   10  
   11         Section 1. Paragraph (i) is added to subsection (1) of
   12  section 957.04, Florida Statutes, to read:
   13         957.04 Contract requirements.—
   14         (1) A contract entered into under this chapter for the
   15  operation of private correctional facilities shall maximize the
   16  cost savings of such facilities and shall:
   17         (i) Require that the contractor provide, at a minimum, the
   18  following services at designated visiting areas for approved
   19  visitors in the private correctional facility:
   20         1. Information relating to applicable visiting regulations,
   21  dress codes for visitors, and visiting procedures.
   22         2. A sheltered area, outside the security perimeter, where
   23  visitors may wait before and after visiting inmates.
   24         3. Food services, including foods that are nutritious and
   25  acceptable for children and youth visitors.
   26         4. Minimal equipment and supplies that assist staff and
   27  visitors in managing and occupying the time and meeting the
   28  needs of children and youth visitors.
   29         Section 2. This act applies to contracts entered into,
   30  extended, or readopted on or after July 1, 2011, and to all
   31  contracts on or after July 1, 2012.
   32         Section 3. This act shall take effect July 1, 2011.
