A bill to be entitled
2An act relating to crisis stabilization units; amending s.
3394.875, F.S.; increasing the number of client beds a
4crisis stabilization unit is authorized to provide;
5providing an effective date.

7Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

9     Section 1.  Paragraph (a) of subsection (1) of section
10394.875, Florida Statutes, is amended to read:
11     394.875  Crisis stabilization units, residential treatment
12facilities, and residential treatment centers for children and
13adolescents; authorized services; license required.-
14     (1)(a)  The purpose of a crisis stabilization unit is to
15stabilize and redirect a client to the most appropriate and
16least restrictive community setting available, consistent with
17the client's needs. Crisis stabilization units may screen,
18assess, and admit for stabilization persons who present
19themselves to the unit and persons who are brought to the unit
20under s. 394.463. Clients may be provided 24-hour observation,
21medication prescribed by a physician or psychiatrist, and other
22appropriate services. Crisis stabilization units shall provide
23services regardless of the client's ability to pay and shall be
24limited in size to a maximum of 50 30 beds.
25     Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2011.
