    1                          Senate Resolution                        
    2         A resolution honoring the memory of Officer Roger
    3         Castillo and Officer Amanda Haworth of the Miami-Dade
    4         County Police Department.
    5  
    6         WHEREAS, on January 20, 2011, Officer Roger Castillo of
    7  Davie, Florida, a 21-year veteran of the Miami-Dade County
    8  Police Department, and Officer Amanda Haworth of Miramar,
    9  Florida, a 23-year veteran of the Miami-Dade County Police
   10  Department, were shot and killed by a violent fugitive as they
   11  attempted to execute a homicide warrant in Miami, Florida, and
   12         WHEREAS, Officer Castillo, who was 41 years of age, leaves
   13  behind a wife, Debbie, and three sons, and Officer Haworth, who
   14  was 44 years of age, leaves behind a 13-year-old son, and
   15         WHEREAS, Officer Castillo and Officer Haworth risked their
   16  lives for the greater good of their community by promoting a
   17  safe and secure environment that was free from crime, and
   18         WHEREAS, in the daily performance of their duties as law
   19  enforcement officers, Officer Castillo and Officer Haworth not
   20  only upheld the principles and values embodied in the United
   21  States Constitution and the Constitution of the State of
   22  Florida, they also honored the mission statement of the Miami
   23  Dade County Police Department by practicing the department’s
   24  core values of integrity, respect, service, and fairness
   25  throughout their careers and by committing themselves to the
   26  highest performance standards, ethical conduct, and truthfulness
   27  in all of their relationships, and
   28         WHEREAS, throughout our nation’s history, nearly 19,000
   29  members of the law enforcement community have made the ultimate
   30  sacrifice and given their lives while providing for the safety
   31  and protection of others, and
   32         WHEREAS, in honoring the lives of Officer Roger Castillo
   33  and Officer Amanda Haworth for their valiant dedication,
   34  sacrifice, and service to the south Florida community, we should
   35  also be reminded of the tens of thousands of law enforcement
   36  officers who have died similarly in the line of duty and of
   37  those law enforcement officers who serve our communities every
   38  day to provide for our safety and protection, at risk of the
   39  same peril, NOW, THEREFORE,

   41  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:
   42  
   43         That the Florida Senate, with great sadness, marks the
   44  tragic and untimely passing of Officer Roger Castillo and
   45  Officer Amanda Haworth of the Miami-Dade County Police
   46  Department.
   47         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Florida Senate extends its
   48  deepest sympathy and condolences to the families of each
   49  officer, and hereby honors Officer Roger Castillo and Officer
   50  Amanda Haworth for their 44 years of dedicated service as law
   51  enforcement officers to the citizens of Miami-Dade County.
   52         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be
   53  presented to the families of Officer Roger Castillo and Officer
   54  Amanda Haworth as a tangible token of the sentiments of the
   55  Florida Senate.
